About the Place
If you're searching for authentic Mexican flavors in Fort Worth, Taqueria Melis is a must-visit destination. Nestled at 4304 W Vickery Blvd, this local gem has earned its reputation over decades, serving up some of the city's best Mexican staples with a focus on fresh ingredients and bold, savory tastes.
The highlight here is the breakfast burrito, praised for its perfect customization and balance of bacon, potato, egg, and cheese, all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and paired with a vibrant green salsa. It’s a simple yet deeply satisfying offering that speaks to the kitchen’s mastery of flavor harmony.
Fans of tacos will find an impressive variety, with the al pastor standing out as a consistent crowd favorite. The meat’s rich seasoning and the inclusion of traditional toppings like onion and cilantro, combined with the option of flour or corn tortillas, make every bite memorable. Don’t miss out on the beef gorditas — their texture and flavor have converted even the most hesitant first-timers. And if you’re a fan of classic Mexican comfort foods, the tamales here deliver authentic warmth and richness that recall home-cooked meals.
Taqueria Melis excels in its salsas too. Both the green salsa served alongside breakfast and the salsa verde accompanying the tacos showcase a freshness and complexity that elevate the entire meal. Customers frequently note the homemade quality and perfect balance of heat and acidity, which is no small feat.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere carries an unpretentious charm. While the exterior may not scream fancy, the quality inside speaks volumes. The casual setting, with shaded picnic tables on the patio, encourages diners to savor their meals comfortably and without fuss. The cash-only policy and some areas like the painted menu on the wall hint at the taqueria’s grassroots authenticity rather than commercial polish.
One cannot overlook the friendly and bilingual staff, whose warmth adds to the overall experience and accessibility. Affordable prices—often around $8 to $10 for a full meal—and generous portions make Taqueria Melis an excellent value, especially in a city growing richer in culinary options but sometimes lacking in genuine Mexican street food experiences.
In essence, Taqueria Melis is a beacon of honest, flavorful Mexican cuisine in Fort Worth. From hearty breakfast burritos to perfectly seasoned tacos and homemade salsas, every dish reflects dedication to tradition and taste. If you want the closest taste to El Paso-style Mexican cooking without leaving Texas, this is your spot.
“ Best breakfast burrito in Fort Worth, tailored to exactly the ingredients you desire. Mine is bacon, potato, egg, and cheese. Served on a flower tortilla with a side of green salsa. Couldn’t be better… ”
“ Cash only. Been stopping here over 20 years. All the meats have great flavor. Love the salsa verde as well. Best Al Pastor in the city IMO. Only negative is no hand made tortillas. Torta a la Milanese, chorizo and egg, pierna, chicharone and barbacoa are my go tos after pastor. ”
“ Wow!!! My wife had me avoiding this place because of the exterior appearance.... well she had some coworkers tell her it was the closest thing to “El Paso” Mexican food they have been able to find and she finally relented and let me try it! Are there 6 Stars???? Beef Gorditas are amazing and I have been back 3 more times for them - the wife is hooked on the chicken tacos and their tamales were delicious! Fair warning: CASH ONLY - but worth it! I will eventually get to try more but these two were so good I’ve been stuck on them!!! Went one morning for breakfast tacos, potato was good, bacon was crispy, and the ham was amazing!! They don’t seem to put salt on anything, so you get the salt packet on the side.... I skip the salt and add a few drops of the green salsa! Best meal ever!!!! ”
“ $10 for everything. Both salsas were good! Chicken had a good flavor. ”
“ Seems very popular and thus busy the times we visited for breakfast and lunch. Delicious food! They got half of the breakfast order wrong. Appears as though this place has been around for a long time. Wish they would invest in a better paint job for the menu which is painted on an inside wall and not very easy as to understand. We hope they continue to succeed. ”
